Actors aged between 13 and 19 will be performing at the Royal & Derngate in a series of new plays as part of a festival run by London’s National Theatre.

Each year the National Theatre asks 10 writers to create new plays which are then performed by schools and youth theatre companies all over the country.

Plays performed at the Royal & Derngate as part of the scheme will include We Lost Elijah, by Ryan Craig. This play takes audiences back to the 2011 riots, when Elijah’s older brother and two friends are charged with getting him home safely. But Elijah disappears. Did Elijah get caught up in the events or was there another reason for his disappearance?

Works by Anya Reiss, Stacey Gregg, Jemma Kennedy and Jim Cartwright will also be performed.

Eleven different groups from as far afield as Luton, Bedford, Oxford and Nottingham will be performing as part of the National Theatre Connections Festival at the Royal & Derngate from Monday, April 8 until Friday, April 12, with performances from 1.30pm to 7pm each day. Tickets cost £6 per day and can be booked by calling 01604 624811 or visiting www.royalandderngate.co.uk
