The lazy days of summer need not be quite so lazy, at least if the people behind The Castle theatre in Wellingborough have their way.
Summer schools are not only for children as The Castle has a host of workshops on offer, designed for the Over-50s.
The first of the Over-50s workshops will be focused on acting skills and will be held at 11am on Tuesday, August 13. Then, at 2pm on the same day, there will be a workshop on directing.
These will be followed, on Wednesday, August 14, by a prop-making summer workshop and, at 2pm that day, a course on stage management for the over-50s.
On Thursday, August 15, at 11am, there will be a creative writing workshop and, at 2pm, there will be a course entitled ‘Devising.’
Each of the Over-50s courses cost £4 or £21 for those who want to take part in all six.
But there are also opportunities for younger theatre-goers to get involved.
The theatre will be running a project to create a ‘play in a week.’ Participants will be working on telling the classic tale of The Pied Piper, but with a modern twist.
As the story goes, there are rats in the kitchen, rats in the shopping, rats in the town square and there is only one man who can save the day... but at what price?
Organisers are promising five fun-filled days of acting, singing and telling stories. Play In A Week will culminate in a public performance at The Castle for family and friends, so the results of all the hard work can be seen.
This course will run from Monday, August 19 until Friday, August 22, from 10am-4pm. The cost will be £100 or £80 for concessions, and is suitable for ages 10 and over. To book any of these courses, see www.thecastle.org.uk
