A tribute to the national treasure that is Victoria Wood will be performed at the Royal & Derngate in Northampton this week.
Mo Shapiro’s Victoria Wood And Me is one woman’s homage to one of the country’s favourite comediennes, performed with the permission of Wood herself and including many of her best-known songs and monologues.
It tells the story of Victoria Wood’s biggest fan, Gladys Winter, a part written by Girls Night playwright, Louise Roche, with appearances from much-loved characters including Cheadle spinster Kitty, Madeleine the hairdresser and the Sasharelle sales assistant.
The idea for the show began at a party, when Mo was asked to perform. She said: “I had been listening to Victoria Wood for many years and knew lots of her songs by heart, so felt pretty confident at having a go at Pam.” Mo’s rendition of Wood’s classic song was an instant hit and bookings quickly followed.
The show takes place at 8pm on Friday, September 27. Tickets cost £10 and can be booked by calling 01604 624811 or visiting www. royalandderngate.co.uk. Proceeds will go towards funding the work of the Royal & Derngate Actors’ Company.
