After premiering to sell-out audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Me, Mum and Dusty Springfield begins a 2012 tour at The Core at Corby Cube on Saturday.
Written and performed by Hollyoaks and Coronation Street actress, Stephanie Ridings, and directed by The Core’s Chris Sudworth, the one-woman black comedy examines the bond between Mary, her mother, and Dusty Springfield, whose music and lyrics feature throughout the piece.
After the loss of her mother, who was a Dusty Springfield tribute act, Mary carries out an unusual last request in attempt to gain closure on the relationship with a woman who was most comfortable when she was pretending to be someone else.
Stephanie Ridings has previously worked with the Creative Projects Team at The Core, lending her artistic expertise to the Young Actors, Core Company, Community Actors and Play In A Week programmes.
Me, Mum and Dusty Springfield is directed by The Core’s creative director Chris Sudworth, who previously worked on the show with Stephanie in Manchester.
He said: “It’s a delight to work with Stephanie on the first show I have directed since coming to Corby.
“It’s great to be able to bring such a powerful, moving and funny show to The Core, that really showcases what an outstanding performer and writer Steph is.”
It can be seen in The Lab on Saturday at 7.45pm. Tickets are £10 and concessions are £8.
