Acclaimed comedian and writer, Stewart Lee, will return to Northampton’s Royal & Derngate on Saturday with his latest show, Much A-Stew About Nothing.
The tour is said to be a “mixed stew” of ideas in preparation for the comedian’s 2014 TV series, Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle.
A spokesman said: “He may not settle on the content of his Northampton show until the very last minute, but fans can be sure of Lee’s thrillingly intelligent, boundary-pushing iconoclasm, and his tendency to take his own routines to bits as he delivers them.
“Roadtesting material for his forthcoming TV series, he may be touching on subjects such as parental alcoholism, justifiable shoplifting, urban foxes and vasectomies, to Helena Bonham Carter, Anglo-Saxon epic poetry, The Big Bang and Judith Chalmers.”
He continued: “Fearless in his approach to politics, good taste and any other contentious subjects, Lee is the perfect antidote to bland arena comedy and chirpy television panel shows.
“His Northampton show is a unique chance to experience him live, raw and possibly ‘disorderly, sweaty and with eye bags that suggest he hasn’t slept for three days (Daily Mail).’
Praised by The Guardian for its “bone-dry, spot-on scepticism,” Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle won last year’s BAFTA for Best Comedy Programme.
Much A-Stew offers audiences the chance to see him honing brand new material for the show.
Stewart Lee will bring Much A-Stew About Nothing show to Royal & Derngate on Saturday at 8pm. Tickets cost £19. To book, call the box office on 01604 624811 or visit www.royalandderngate.co.uk. The show is recommended for ages 14 and above.
