Not many theatre shows can claim to promise to solve the puzzle of life, the universe and everything, but one very definite response is given in The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy.
A live radio show version of the tale toured for the first time last year and will be taking to the stage once again, arriving at Northampton’s Royal & Derngate on Saturday, September 21.
A spokeswoman said: “The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy became an instant classic on its launch as a radio series. In 2012, Douglas Adams’ creation exploded back into life as a ground-breaking stage production, a radio show like never before, packed with laughter, robots, really wild sounds effects and drinks with extremely silly names.”
Adapted from Douglas Adams’ novels, and directed by Dirk Maggs, The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy Radio Show - Live! is proving a hit with fans young and old as they discover and rediscover Vogons, Babel Fish and Marvin the Paranoid Android.
For the Northampton show, the Voice of the Book will be taken on by the celebrated actress, Dame Harriet Walter. This part is played by different actors depending on the venue.
Actor Simon Jones, who played the original Arthur Dent, will also reprise his role.
The cast will include other original cast members: Susan Sheridan, as Trillian; Geoff McGivern, as Ford Prefect; and Stephen Moore, as Marvin. New to the cast this year is Mitch Benn as Zaphod Beeblebrox.
The show will take to the Derngate stage on Saturday, September 21 at 8pm. Ticket cost between £19.50 and £26.50. Book by calling the box office on 01604 624811 or visit www.royalandderngate.co.uk.
