Olivier award-winning choreographer and director Peter Schaufuss will present two of the world’s best-loved classic ballets at Northampton’s Royal & Derngate from next week.
His company will perform Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Sir Frederick Ashton’s Romeo And Juliet from Monday, September 9 to Saturday, September 14.
Ashton’s Romeo And Juliet was created for the Royal Danish Ballet in 1955 and was the first production of Prokofiev’s ballet outside the Soviet Union.
The role of Juliet was created by Peter Schaufuss’ mother, with his father playing Mercutio.
Before his death, Ashton bequeathed the ballet to Schaufuss, who dedicated himself to bringing Ashton’s work of genus to new audiences. In this new production, Schaufuss’ son Luke will make his debut as Romeo.
Swan Lake is part of the company’s award-winning Tchaikovsky Trilogy and is Peter Schaufuss’ unique take on one of the most famous classical ballets. Schaufuss pushes boundaries with this critically-acclaimed production which makes for a memorable adaptation of a classic.
A spokesman said: “Danish dance legend Peter Schaufuss is regarded as one of the world’s leading classical dancers of the 20th century, whose technical brilliance and creative stage presence turned him into a global ballet superstar.”
