A new musical inspired by the music, life and times of Ike and Tina Turner, goes to Milton Keynes Theatre this week.
Soul Sister features all the duo’s classics, including Simply the Best, What’s Love Got to Do with It, Proud Mary, Private Dancer and River Deep Mountain High.
The musical, featuring Emi Wokoma as Tina Turner, follows the highs and lows, the passions and heartbreak of Ike and Tina Turner as their careers blossomed and their marriage crumbled.
Tina Turner was named “one of the greatest singers of all time” by Rolling Stone magazine. With a career spanning more than 50 years, her combined album and single sales total approximately 180 million copies worldwide. She has won nine Grammy Awards, and had an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, among many other accolades.
Soul Sister was devised by John Miller and Pete Brooks. directed by Pete Brooks and Bob Eaton, designed by Laura Hopkins, with musical staging by Jason Pennycooke.
It will be at the theatre from Monday until Saturday, October 13 at 7.30pm each day, with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2.30pm.
