Musicians, racing llamas and a chainsaw carver will be among the attractions at a town’s Party in the Park event this summer.
Rushden Town Council’s events committee is busy planning the town’s 2012 Party in the Park, which will take place on Saturday, July 14, at Rushden Hall Park.
In the arena this year will be the Blackrock racing llamas display with two teams of llamas competing against one another in a fast action relay race.
There will also be the Portsmouth Area Volunteer Cadet Corps Field Gun Display, which will feature cadets competing against the clock, assembling their military equipment and racing over the challenging obstacle course.
Lennie the Land Train will give rides around the park for children and in the walled garden bands and dance troupes will perform. There will be performances by Jack Danson, a Rod Stewart tribute act, and Blues band Split Whiskers.
Other attractions will include wrestling, fairground rides, a Punch and Judy show and a junior six-a-side football tournament.
Cllr Gill Mercer, who is part of the town council’s events committee, said: “It’s got something for everybody, something for all ages, we try to involve the community as much as possible and make it for the community. It’s a lot of work but it’s good to see people enjoying themselves, we do get a lot of pleasure out of that.”
Party in the Park will run from 1pm to 10pm and admission will be free. Each year more than 100 local groups have a stall at the event.
