One Enchanted Evening was enjoyed in Hargrave Church.

Jonathan Gunthorpe and Damian Thantrey with Kate Valentine, soprano and Caroline Dowdle, pianist, gave a celebratory concert for the church and Hargrave.

We knew we were in for something special at the opening with Jonathan’s rich baritone from the new bell tower in an arrangement of The Lark in the clear air for Hargrave church.

What followed was delight after delight.

Pieces we thought we had forgotten brought back to life by the sparkling presentation of the singers.

There was something for everyone, Mozart, Bizet, Verdi, Lehar and Offenbach. Then to send us home in a romantic mood, songs and duet from South Pacific and the encore A Nightingale sang in Berkeley Square. Have you ever seen and heard it performed like that?

Although all the artistes are professional, they accepted no fees but suggested donations to a charity, Thomas’ Trust. This charity brings music in all forms to severely disabled and terminally ill young people.

A total of £500 was our gift to them.

John and Maggie Priest and members of the Church Council organised this inspirational evening and provided the delectable refreshments in the interval. It was indeed the perfect celebration for the completion of the work and restoration of All Hallows Church, Hargrave.
