This county is packed with dozens of groups committed to bringing music to the masses, whether they be choirs, orchestras, bands or string quartets.
The survival of smaller groups is often down to hard work and the loyalty of the public. In this column I will mention two music groups in need of some community support at the moment.
Firstly, the Heyford Singers sent me an email recently to ask that I mention the vacancies they currently have in all sections.
They would like to hear from any singers who would like the opportunity to join. Rehearsals take place at Nether Heyford Village Hall, usually on Thursday evenings, but sometimes on Fridays. The next rehearsal will be held on Thursday, September 12 at 7.30pm. Ring Mary Rice on 01327 340101.
Northampton Concert Band is also seeking views from their audience to help them plan for the future as they approach their centenary in 2019. They are currently running an online survey in order to gather views from the public.
As an incentive, the band has two free tickets to a Last Night Of The Proms themed concert at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Northampton on Saturday, September 28, which could be won by those who complete the online survey at www.northamptonconcertband.org.uk. The concert will include a range of music by the Northampton Concert Band and the Cantare Singers and will include classics such as Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory. For those who wish to buy tickets for the event, they are £10 each. Call 01604 754782.
