Fans of choral music will be delighted to hear there is plenty on offer from county choirs in the coming week.

At 7.30pm this Saturday, The Swarbrick Singers will celebrate the season with a programme of sacred choral music for Lent, to be performed at St Mary the Virgin in Wellingborough. Entry is £10.

The Towcester Choral Society will be performing on Sunday at St Lawrence Church, in Towcester, where they will give a Palm Sunday Concert at 6pm, and then at St James the Great Church, Paulerspury, for an Easter concert, on Tuesday at 7.30pm (admission £8 or £6 for those under 16). Children from Nicholas Hawksmoor School and Towcester CofE Primary School will also perform. The programme will include Andrew Carter’s Benedicite and Karl Jenkin’s Adiemus.

Those who prefer orchestral work may find what they are looking for at the Royal & Derngate on Sunday at 7.30pm when Ukrainian maestro, Kirill Karabits, will be conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in an evening of Russian masterpieces.

The programme will include Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3, featuring pianist Alexei Volodin.

There will be a pre-concert talk at 6.30pm. Tickets cost between £14 and £32.50.

The RPO will also be hosting a family workshop in the Royal & Derngate’s Underground, starting at 1pm. The theme will be Russian Adventure. Tickets cost £2.50 (including accompanying adults). Recommended for those aged six to 13. Call 01604 624811 for more info.
