Northamptonshire restaurant and garden centre to close on its busiest day

While most stores will be hanging out the bunting to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, one Northamptonshire retailer is taking an alternative approach to the celebrations – it’s closing.

Beckworth Emporium at Mears Ashby is planning to shut its doors for two days on June 4 and 5 in honour both of the Queen and of its staff, who will now be able to share the Jubilee festivities at home with their families.

David Brown, co-owner of the award-winning restaurant, garden nursery and food hall, said: “I think most people will think we’re a bit mad, closing on the bank holiday Monday and Tuesday which are traditionally our busiest days.

“But in the end this a very special time and we want to ensure that our staff, who work so hard all year round, have the chance to join in the local and national celebrations as they wish.”

The emporium will be open as normal on the Saturday, June 2, and Sunday, June 3.
