At last, spring seems to be upon us and we are now enjoying a few warmer days!
With this in mind, we have put away our range of ‘Winter Warmers’ and have relaunched our delicious range of milkshakes.
Choose from Raspberry & White Chocolate, After Eight, Oreo Cookies & Cream or Banoffee Pie – all delicious and once again receiving rave reviews.
Suggestions for other flavours always welcome!
As previously mentioned, our first ‘java & jabber’ session took place this week led by Sue and Jo of The Tea Party Social.
There was a good turnout for this first session and all the ladies who came enjoyed doing the different craft activities on offer while chatting with new friends in a relaxed and friendly environment.
We intend to hold these sessions every Monday from 9.30am to 11.30am so why not come along and have a go!

It is always lovely to receive positive feedback and we do receive a lot of compliments on our home-baked cakes – thanks to the hard work of Carol Walters, the owner of Coffee House Cakes.
Carol is very passionate about her cake baking and its history and has kindly put together the following very interesting information about the history of the Victoria sponge.
“Having supplied javajava with what seems like hundreds of cakes over the past year, I have become fascinated with the history of this universally-loved treat and the rituals and customs surrounding afternoon tea all over the world.
“Whether taken in a plush hotel with wafer-thin sandwiches and elegant patisserie, or in the less informal setting of a favourite coffee shop while reading a good book, a slice of chocolate, coffee or carrot cake and a pot of tea is always an enjoyable way to pass an hour or two.
“Perhaps one of the most popular items on our cake stands today, however, is the Victoria sponge (also known as the Victoria sandwich).
“This is the most basic and delicious of cakes, and also the one most likely to be attempted by the novice baker at home.
“Although the earliest–recorded sponge cake recipe in English appeared in print in this country in 1615, it is Anna, the Duchess of Bedford, that we have to thank for the Victoria sponge we know and love today.
“The Duchess was one of Queen Victoria’s ladies in waiting – waiting being the operative word, as the customary time for dinner at court was a stomach-rumbling 9pm!
“The Duchess found it necessary to instigate her own “tea-time” at 4pm when her servants would secretly bring her a pot of tea and a few edible treats to tide her over until the evening meal.
“As time went on, the Duchess invited guests to take tea with her, serving small cakes and sandwiches.
“By 1885, Queen Victoria was hosting similar parties herself and, having a sweet tooth, favoured the cake sandwiched with jam and cream produced in the palace kitchens and subsequently named in her honour – the Victoria sponge.
“If you haven’t tried to bake a Victoria sponge, why not take advantage of all the excellent recipes and resources online and have a go?
“My favourite recipe is Mary Berry’s Perfect Victoria Sandwich which uses the “all in one” method, and which can be found on the BBC website at present.”
Carol is taking part in the first Local Producers Market at Stanwick Lakes on Sunday, April 28, from 10am to 2pm.
She will be selling a selection of cakes, muffins and traybakes and would be delighted to welcome customers old and new to her stall.
