Tip of the week with Beck Photographic

Frame your subject.

Try using natural frames such as arches, trees, shrubbery etc to frame your subject.

This will have the effect of isolating your subject from their surroundings and help to direct the viewer’s eye to the main point of interest.

You can also isolate your subject by using a wide aperture – 9 times out of 10 when I am shooting a wedding, I have my camera set to the widest aperture I can.

This blurs anything that could potentially be distracting in the background.

The above image shows both of these techniques.
