A football club is giving its creative fans the chance to design its next playing kit.

AFC Rushden & Diamonds is giving fans the opportunity to design kits for its first team, under-18s side and several of its youth teams for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.

The winning designers will each receive a replica shirt and two tickets to a home game at which they will be able to collect their prize.

Acting vice chairman Jon Ward said: “We’re really keen to engage with the fans and this is another opportunity to get the community involved in the club and give fans the chance to have a proper say on our new kits.

“We’ve given some design guidelines on the home and away kit but when it comes to the third kit it can be anything their imaginations can come up with.

“It can be as strange or as abstract as they like. I think there was a rugby team that had a bright pink kit – I’m not saying something like that will be chosen but we’ll look at everything.”

Entrants can submit as many designs at they like for the club’s home, away and third kits.

The home kit must have a white shirt with possible red and blue styling, blue shorts with possible styling and blue socks and the away kit should have yellow shirts, black shorts and yellow socks

But people are free to use their imagination when it comes to the third kit.

The competition is open until midnight on March 21.

A shortlist of the best designs will then be drawn up by the AFC Rushden & Diamonds’ judging panel and Diamonds members will then vote on the shortlisted designs.

The winners will be announced on April 13.

The competition is open to everyone and electronic or hand drawn entries can be emailed to merchandise@afcdiamonds.com or posted to AFC Rushden & Diamonds, The Dog & Duck Stadium, London Road, Wellingborough, NN8 2DP.

The final designs used may have to differ from the winning entries due to manufacturing requirements and, or the requirements of the Football Association, Northamptonshire Football Association or their member leagues.
