SAINTS boss Jim Mallinder has confirmed he wants to keep trialist Rhys Oakley at the club.
Former Leeds Carnegie and Bourgoin No.8 Oakley has impressed in three pre-season outings so far.
He came off the bench to good effect against Leinster last Saturday, then started against Moseley on Thursday before again being used as a replacement against Edinburgh a day later.
And the 31-year-old, who has two Wales caps to his name, appears to have done enough to secure a deal at Franklin’s Gardens.
Mallinder said: “Rhys has played really well. He’s come in on loan and we’re really happy with what he’s done. Hopefully we’ll keep him.
“He’s a very talented and experienced rugby player. He’s played for Wales, he’s played in England, he’s played in France and I think some of those experiences will be really good for our squad.”
