Jim Mallinder has told the Saints players not to let the heavy defeat to Leinster define them.

And he is urging them to use Saturday’s game in Dublin as a springboard to a month of success.

Saints head to the Aviva Stadium hoping to avenge last weekend’s 40-7 defeat at Franklin’s Gardens.

A morale boost will be vital ahead of a return to Aviva Premiership action, with games against Wasps, Bath and Harlequins hot on the heels of the Leinster reunion.

And Mallinder said: “We cannot hide from last Saturday, but we can’t let it define us either.

“This week we have an immediate chance to show how quickly we can learn and how much we want to compete with a side who have been one of the best in Europe for a number of years.

“We want this week to be a springboard for what is a big month for all of our teams. We’ve got Premiership matches at Wasps and at home to Bath and Harlequins, while the Wanderers have the Aviva ‘A’ League final next Monday.

“Leinster have shown us the level we need to be at to succeed at the top of the game, and it was a significant step up from any other match we’ve played so far this season.

“It’s going to take a lot of hard work and commitment, but we believe we’re better than we showed on Saturday, and will be putting everything into getting things right for the next few weeks and beyond.”
