Jim Mallinder has revealed Christian Day may have suffered a break - after the lock was withdrawn during the second half of Friday night’s 24-6 win against Wasps.

Day took a blow to the shin and was down for a prolonged period of time before leaving the field and being sent straight to hospital.

Mark Sorenson replaced the former Sale man, who has started all five of Saints games this season, in the 54th minute.

And Sorenson could now get his chance to impress in the coming weeks after Mallinder confirmed Day’s injury was a serious one.

“He’s picked up a shin injury,” said the Saints boss. “We actually got him off to hospital to have a look at that. There could be a problem there.”

And when asked if it was break Day had suffered, Mallinder replied: “It could be, yes.”
