Freddie Burns has been voted the Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Month for February.
The Gloucester fly-half was chosen as the month’s stand out performer by a panel of distinguished rugby media – including writers, broadcasters and photographers.
“Freddie is one of the best young players in Europe and he has blossomed through this Aviva Premiership Rugby season.
Gloucester’s young guns have been lighting up the Aviva Premiership and Freddie has been the catalyst for their stylish performances,” said Panel Chairman Paul Morgan.
The recent Saxon inductee spoke of the pride he felt for being named February’s Aviva Premiership Player of the Month: “I’m obviously honoured to receive the award but, without wanting to trot out all the old clichés, it’s all down to my team mates. I wouldn’t be able to operate without the possession that the forwards work so hard to provide and the skills of the boys outside me who give me options!
“I’m also grateful to the coaches here at Gloucester who have placed so much faith in me and helped me to develop my game. They’re always pushing me to work hard and improve; they’ve been a massive influence.”
Gloucester’s Director of Rugby Bryan Redpath is a huge fan of the young fly-half, saying: “I’m really pleased for Freddie because, although he’s got all the skills, he’s also worked tremendously hard this season. He’s always had the raw ability but what’s improved this season is his game management, taking the right options and steering us around the field.
“He’ll be the first to admit that he’s still got a lot to learn, but he’s really moved things in the right direction in the past few months and I think there’s still a lot to come from him.”
