Wilson has been forced to show his battling qualities over the past few days to book his place in the last four of the ranking tournament.

In the opening round, the all-Northamptonshire clash between Wilson and Wellingborough man Rory McLeod saw the former battled back from 4-1 down to take the last four frames with a top break of 61.

That set up a last 16 clash with Michael Holt yesterday, which proved to be a match that swung back and forth with Wilson leading four times, only for the world number 27 to send it into a deciding frame.

However, the Kettering man held his nerve to win the decider and book a quarter-final with Ryan Day.

Again, the 24-year-old was on the brink of an exit when he found himself 4-2 down against the world number 18.

But he won the next two with clearances of 34 and 49 and then took a scrappy decider 52-13 to secure a 5-4 scoreline.

“I’m not sure how much more of it I can take but I’m still fighting.”
