Rushden darts star James Richardson has booked himself a place at the PDC’s fourth European Tour event next month.

Richardson, who was a quarter-finalist in the first European Tour event in Austria in April, saw off Ross Smith by a narrow 6-5 margin in the UK Qualifier to earn his place in the German Darts Classic, which will be held in Stuttgart from September 7.

‘Ruthless’ has been paired with Peter Wright in the first-round draw.

Richardson’s son Joshua, meanwhile, was involved in the three PDC Unicorn Youth Tour events at the Moorways Centre in Derby over the weekend.

He suffered defeats at the first hurdle in all three events as he lost out to Adam Hart (4-3), Dan Read (4-1) and Lee Whitworth (4-1).

Kettering’s Ricky Evans had a better time of things in the three events.

In the first one, Evans claimed a 4-0 win over Kirsty Hutchinson before losing out 4-3 to Brandonn Monk.

His best run came in the next event as Evans saw off Alexander Topper (4-2), Shaun Griffiths (4-1) and Jake Patchett (4-2) before suffering a 4-2 defeat to Arron Monk in the fourth round.

In the final competition, Evans beat Sam Hewson 4-2 before losing 4-3 to Samuel Head.
