James Richardson was knocked out of the PDC World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace at the first hurdle.

The man from Rushden had high hopes of repeating the upset he caused last year - when he knocked out five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld - but was beaten 3-1 by Andy Hamilton.

Hamilton came from a set down to win after Richardson raised hopes of causing another huge shock.

The Scotsman produced a superb second set - which he won with legs of 14, 12 and 14 darts - before edging the next two in a deciding leg to progress.
