Rushden’s James Richardson Suffered Two First-Round Exits as he was beaten 6-4 by Jamie Lewis on the first day before going down by the same scoreline to Jelle Klaasen on Sunday.

Irthlingborough player Kevin McDine was edged out 6-5 by Premier League semi-finalist Andy Hamilton in the opening event but McDine had a better time of things the following day as he beat Nigel Heydon 6-3 in the first round before again being on the wrong end of a 6-5 scoreline, this time against Wes Newton.

Daventry’s Matthew Edgar was whitewashed 6-0 by Arron Monk and lost out to Richie Howson 6-3 on the following day.

Kevin Painter, also from Daventry, suffered a surprise 6-2 loss to Keegan Brown on Saturday but ‘The Artist’ was in better form the day after as he saw off Daniel Starkey 6-3 before recording 6-1 and 6-4 successes over Sam Hill and Robert Thornton respectively.

But his run was ended in the fourth round as Justin Pipe claimed a 6-4 victory.

Richardson, Edgar and McDine also missed out on places in the German Darts Championship - the PDC’s second European Tour event.

McDine yet again lost 6-5 this time to Dennis Smith in the first round while Edgar was beaten 6-2 by Darren Webster.

Richardson claimed 6-1 win over Barrie Bates but lost 6-4 to Michael Barnard in the key game as his opponent qualified for the event.
