Wellingborough’s Meghan MacLaren swept away from the field to score an eight-shot win and claim her fifth victory on the US women’s college golf circuit.

The England international and British stroke play champion was 11-under par for two rounds of the JU Amelia Island Collegiate in Florida and was declared the winner when the final round was abandoned after heavy rain flooded the greens.

MacLaren’s incredible form continued as she set a personal best and a course record with her eight-under-par first-round score of 64.

Remarkably it included a double bogey, on the par four 16th, alongside eight birdies and an eagle.

She shot 69 in the second round to move herself well clear off all her challengers.

The 20-year-old is a third-year student at Florida International.
