Kettering’s Ricky Evans is back in action at the William Hill Grand Slam of Darts on Sunday after losing out to defending champion Raymond van Barneveld in his opening group game.
The 23-year-old, in his first appearance in the competition, put up a good fight against the five-time world champion but was eventually beaten 5-2 at the Wolverhampton Civic Centre.
Evans takes on Mervyn King in his second group match on Sunday afternoon but the Kettering youngster earned praise from van Barneveld for his display.
The Dutch star said: “I felt great and I’m pleased to have come through my first game with a win and to get two points.
“It’s fantastic to be back here again and the crowd were awesome today - the atmosphere was unreal.
“Ricky is a young player coming through the ranks and I wasn’t underestimating him, and he played good darts, so I’m happy to win that.”
Evans’ match against King will be live on Sky Sports on Sunday afternoon.
