Corby gymnast Daniel Keatings is gearing up for what may prove to be the key weekend for him ahead of the Olympic selections.
Keatings will compete in the British Championships in Liverpool this weekend as he looks to prove his fitness having recovered from an ankle injury, which kept him out of last month’s European Championships.
The 22-year-old will compete on all six pieces of apparatus for the first time since April at the event at the Echo Arena, which gets under way today.
It has been a tricky time for Keatings due to injuries but he showed he is getting back to his best by claiming silver on the pommel horse at the Challenger Trophy in Ghent earlier this month.
This weekend’s championships are the final Olympic trial for the senior gymnasts who will hope to make up the five-strong men’s and women’s teams, which will be announced on July 4.
Keatings faces stiff competition as all the the British European Championship gold medal-winning team will be in action.
His return alongside those ensures the battle for places in the men’s team will be extremely close.
