The Northants senior men opened their VCars Division Four campaign with a scrappy win over the Leicester Warriors second team.

In the 15-point win, Leon Henry dominated the scoring with 31 points, with good support coming from Merson Paul with 13 points while Leome Francis scored 12 points and rebounded superbly.

After their big cup win the previous week the Northants Thunder went into this Premier Division North game against Cheshire Jets in optimistic mood.

But in a game of more than 50 fouls they came off second best. This was despite a 37-point haul from Matt Yates, backed up by 19 points from Leiws Mooney – a total which included six successful three-point shots.

The Northants Lightning junior women won a scrappy game against local rivals Bucks Hornets.

Izzy Johns led her team’s scoring with 20 points, with good support coming from Lois Bain and Steph Ogden with 16 and 11 points respectively.

A Jekyll and Hyde performance from the Northants cadet men saw them record their first win of the season.

Scoring was led by George Paul with 29 points which included eight successful three-point attempts.

Good support came from Andre Arissol and Josh Round with 21 and 15 points respectively while Pauli Laurinolli chipped in with 15 points.

A day later Andre Arissol scored 15 points as Thunder saw off Notts Nova.

THE Thunder under-15 boys and girls teams both enjoyed big victories as the expense of the Birmingham Bulldogs and the Solent Suns.

The boys beat the Bulldogs 90-40, while the girls were too strong for the Suns, winning 71-40.

Northants Titans under-14s didn’t get going until the fourth quarter as they swept aside Shropshire Warriors in Telford.

For the most part of the first three quarters, Titans were around 10 points ahead against a Warriors side they thrashed last season.

Point guard Kennan Salmon waited until two minutes into the fourth to give coach John Clarke a relaxing sit-down.

Salmon e turned it on in the final eight minutes leading Titans into a 42-12 point explosion. Salmon top-scored with 30, Hayden Alcindor on 25 and captain Elliot Farrar on 13.

Titans’ under-15s hung on to edge out Derby Trailbazers.+

Sam Stopps and James Andrews both led the scoring with nine, while Cameron Hawes and Devante Morgan chipped in with eight apiece.

TITANS’ under-13 boys lost 71-59 to Milton Keynes Lions, while the under-16s boys recorded a 62-43 win at City of Birmingham. The under-16s also beat Cheshire Juniors 66-39.

Titans’ women’s side were also victorious, winning 60-57 at Reading Rockets.
