Charley Hull shot a 76 in the first round of the Women’s British Open on the Old Course at St Andrews.

The Kettering youngster finished four over par to sit in the bottom end of the leaderboard after day one.

Only four players had worse starts than Hull on what was a disappointing beginning to the tournament from a player who has been impressing everyone on the tour since she turned professional.

It was her finish to the round that let her down.

Having bogeyed the second, 17-year-old Hull held it together well to record 12 consecutive pars.

However, further bogeys on 15, 16 and 17 left her some way behind the leaders.

She will be in the third group out tomorrow, starting at 6.52am, as she is again accompanied by Americans Michelle Wie and Jessica Korda.
