Cycling – Brown is the exception to the rule

Winner Tony Brown was the exception to the rule as he improved by 12 seconds in the second of Kettering CC’s 18.8-midweek time trials over two laps of the Old circuit.

The rest of the field slowed from the previous week, courtesy of an easterly breeze, with second-placed David Robinson (46.29) going back a minute.

Jon Thorne (48.33) took third place, while Stu Jones was a non-finisher after stopping to assist accident victim John Smith.

Junior George Evans (pictured) opted for one lap and was rewarded by a personal best 28.46, improving over a minute. Fastest overall for the two laps was guest Stuart Wright (Planet X) in 44.12.

Tim Smith (20.48) was a commanding winner of Welland Valley CC’s evening ‘10’ on the Kibworth-Market Harborough bypass course with a margin in excess of a minute over closest rival Lee Edmonds (21.54), who clipped seven seconds from his personal best.

Veteran Pete Trotman (23.51) edged out Joseph Wood (23.56) to win A5 Rangers CC’s 10-mile Trophy time trial on the Finmere course with Harry Warner (27.00) taking the junior title.

Wood also had to settle for second place in the club’s 25-mile championship, clocking 1:03.53 behind champion Enrico Cacciatori (1:00.33).
