WITH a lucky draw on the warm side of the lake Mick Smith hauled out more than 31lb of fish at Rushton Lake.
After picking out peg 40 from the draw bag he almost ran to his swim at the far end of the fishery.
As well as carp to 7lb 4oz, Smith also had the added bonus of a 5lb 12oz barbel which just shows how much weight this species had put on since stocked a few years ago as fingerlings.
All of our local lake fisheries now have stocks of these powerful fish and at some waters they can reach double figures but to catch them anglers are usually fishing with feeders or other bottom rigs.
Result: Mick Smith 31lb 3oz, Ken Barnes 22-0, T Taylor 19-4, Eddie Taylor and Graham Height both 17-4, Allan Marlow 16-8. Next match: June 6 at Rushton Lake.
