Northamptonshire saw their Liberty Tropy campaign end in the most agonising manner as they were beaten by just one in shot in their quarter-final with Durham.

Played at the neutral venue of Leeds, Durham, who had several internationals in their ranks, made the early running and led by 22 shots at one stage.

However, Northamptonshire mounted a superb comeback and led by eight themselves going into the final ends.

Durham then mounted their own comeback and cut the gap to three going into the final end.

And, with Durham lying three, Gary Smith produced a great wood under pressure to gain the final shot and snatch the match 116-115.
