Lincoln fans react to 'bank rolled bruiser' jibes

Lincoln City fans have reacted to Mark Cooper's defence of his Kettering Town team.

Mark Cooper believes Lincoln City might be worrying about facing Kettering Town in the first round of the FA Cup after the Coca-Cola League Two side landed the first punch in the mind games stakes.

Imps striker Kevin Gall was quoted in the Lincolnshire Echo as saying the Poppies "will try a few things to unsettle us" while the newspaper themselves described Kettering as "bank-rolled bruisers" ahead of Saturday's clash at the A-Line Arena.

Gall – who is currently on loan at Sincil Bank from Carlisle United – said: "I've played against non-League sides before and I'm sure Kettering won't be different to any other.

"In the past there have been dodgy pitches, cold showers, not to mention the poor facilities and they will try a few things to unsettle us.

"It's important that you don't let it get to you and you just keep your nerve, because if they sense you are weak then they will take advantage of it.

"It will be a difficult game because they will be desperate to cause an upset and they'll be well up for it.

"We must remember that we are the better side, purely because of our league position and I'm sure if we remain professional then we will win."

Cooper was able to laugh off some of the comments but insisted his

players will try to do all their talking on the pitch.

"I can't really argue with the bruisers tag but we certainly haven't got a lot of money," the Poppies boss joked.

And now on the Lincoln City fan site, Imps' fans have had their say:

Impster said: Maybe bank-rolled is a little harsh, but where were Kettering up until three years ago? I am sure there has been some financial input if you look at their team now.

As for Gall, that is just thick footballer speak. He shouldn't stereotype all non-league clubs but it was possibly put to him and he agreed!

Jamesimp said: Either way these guys don't need any extra incentive to beat us, it won't be nice if they do now, wish he'd kept his mouth shut, not as though he'll play a major part in the game anyway.

Branston Imp said: he's right... Im worried about playing them i think they will be very very tough. Gall you are a tool

Lindonimp said: To be fair it wasn't Gall who said "bank rolled bruisers"

Nottingham Imp said: but in truth Ladak has indeed bankrolled them. why do you think they could afford gazza et al and the team is full of ex league players. gall may be a tool but he is right on that point.

Notty Imp said: We will lose against Kettering.
