The Steelmen rounded off the season with a heavy defeat as they went down 5-0 at Harrogate Town, who confirmed their play-off place as a result.

Wright’s team’s fate had been decided sometime ago as Corby were relegated just 12 months after being promoted as Southern League Premier Division champions.

It’s been a season that won’t live long in the memory of the Steelmen followers.

And Wright insists he is doing only “looking forward” as he begins to plan for the next campaign, which will see the first-team at Steel Park train full-time in line with the club’s academy.

“The season is done and dusted now I am doing nothing else apart from looking forward,” the Corby manager said.

“We have obviously known our fate for a couple of weeks and I didn’t envisage our season panning out the way it did.

“It’s been disappointing but I still sent my team out there to try to win the game, I know I did that much.

“It was another harsh reality check for us in this league.

“We will put some plans in place for next season and we will do what we can to come back even stronger than before.

“And if we can get ourselves back up, I think we will be a lot more streetwise next time.”

As far as the final action of the season was concerned, the Steelmen never recovered after falling 3-0 down inside the first 16 minutes.

But Wright was still pleased with some aspects of their game, despite the heavy loss.

“We conceded a penalty in the second minute but I think it was debatable, certainly our players felt it was outside the box,” he added.

“But once it went to 2-0 after six minutes, you did feel that the writing was on the wall.

“To be honest, we played some decent football again at times and we created enough to make it 5-5.

“Yet again, we weren’t clinical enough and I shouldn’t be talking about 5-5 draws because that does mean we have conceded five goals, which isn’t good enough.”
