AFC Rushden & Diamonds maintained their impressive start to the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division campaign with a resounding 5-1 success over Sleaford Town at the Dog & Duck.

It took until just before half-time for Mark Starmer’s men to break the deadlock when Russ Dunkley put them in front but it was one-way traffic after the break.

Alfie Taylor doubled the advantage nine minutes into the second period before Matt Gearing’s penalty made it 3-0.

Adam Weston did pull a goal back for the visitors but Diamonds maintained their 100 per cent start with Taylor grabbing his second before Alex Deakin completed the scoring.

Desborough Town took the bragging rights at the S6 Stadium as two first-half goals were enough to see off neighbours Harborough Town and maintain an unbeaten start to the season.

Paul Caswell converted David Glass’ pass to give Ar Tarn the lead on 36 minutes and Glass’ deflected free-kick gave the hosts a cushion just before the break.

Desborough were reduced to 10 men when Richard Scott, who was deemed the last man, saw red for a foul on Cameron Starsmore. But Steve Walker’s men held on for the three points.

Stewarts & Lloyds boss Kevin Byrne secured his first point in charge with a 0-0 draw at Newport Pagnell, who collected their first point of the season.

It was a bad day for Wellingborough Town, however, as three first-half goals sent them to a 3-0 defeat at Deeping.

Ryan Oliver’s brace put the hosts in control and the win was wrapped up before half-time by Matt Heron.

Raunds Town’s fine start to the Division One season continued as they edged out local rivals Irchester United at Kiln Park.

One goal was enough and it came from joint-manager Jim Le Masurier as he grabbed the winner with 20 minutes to go to maintain the Shopmates’ unbeaten start to the campaign.

Rushden & Higham picked up their first win of the season in emphatic style as they thumped hapless Woodford United 6-0.

Jory Mann set the ball rolling and it was 2-0 before half-time thanks to Lewis O’Dell’s goal. O’Dell made it 3-0 three minutes into the second half and Mann also grabbed his second on the hour.

And late goals from Kev Dobson and Rory Brinkhurst rounded off a comfortable victory for the Lankies.

Thrapston Town picked up their first clean sheet and second point of the season as they held St Neots Saints to a 0-0 draw.

But it was a bad day for Burton Park Wanderers as a goal in each half from Ben Shepherd and Fuad Ahmed sealed a 2-0 success for Buckingham Town.

Rothwell Corinthians have now lost four out of four after they were edged out 2-1 at Harrowby.

The damage was done in the first half as Jack Whyley and Craig Wilson gave Harrowby a 2-0 lead. Tom Johnson pulled a goal back soon after the break but that was the end of the scoring.

On Friday night, Whitworth slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Northampton Spencer, who clinched the points thanks to Paul Pickering’s goal on 11 minutes.
