AFC Rushden & Diamonds can put one hand on promotion to the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division tonight.
The high-fliers’ final home game sees them take on next door neighbours Whitworth at the Dog & Duck (7.45pm) and victory will see them move to within one point of securing elevation in their first season as a senior club.
Mark Starmer’s side maintained their superb recent form with a 2-0 success at Potton United at the weekend.
Should they be victorious against the Flourmen, then they will be promoted on Saturday if they avoid defeat against Northampton Spencer in their final match of the campaign or if Oadby Town fail to win at Olney Town.
For Whitworth, it is the first of two games in 24 hours as they travel to Bugbrooke tomorrow night after facing their local rivals this evening.
Leaders Sileby Rangers can secure promotion this evening if they are victorious at NFA Junior Cup finalists Rushden & Higham. The Lankies have been in reasonable form themselves of late as they continue their preparations for the Sixfields showdown with Cogenhoe United Reserves on May 13.
Elsewhere, Thrapston Town play their penultimate game of the season when they take on Potton United at Chancery Lane. Thrapston will be looking to bounce back after an impressive display wasn’t quite enough for them on Saturday as they went down 4-2 at Oadby.
There is also action aplenty in the Premier Division, although there is less at stake.
Wellingborough Town and Stewarts & Lloyds both secured their status for another season last week before the latter claimed a 3-2 derby success when the two sides met at the weekend.
The Doughboys head to Boston Town this evening while S&L entertain Huntingdon Town at Occupation Road.
Relegated Irchester United complete their campaign tonight as they face Shepshed Dynamo at Alfred Street in what will be their final game before a return to Division One.
