Corby Town were on the receiving end of a narrow 3-2 defeat to a Leicester City XI in their latest pre-season outing yesterday.
The Steelmen played their part in an entertaining encounter at Steel Park but a late strike from Harry Panayiotou proved decisive.
Earlier in the piece, the visitors, who fielded a development side with their first team entertaining Monaco, took the lead through Joe Dodoo in the third minute and doubled their advantage seven minutes later via Marko Futacs.
But the hosts went into the break on level terms as Avelion Viera and Nabil Shairf found the target in the 24th and 44th minutes respectively.
And it looked like the spoils would be shared before Panayiotou hit the target in the final minutes.
Kettering Town claimed a draw at Banbury United as they were denied by an injury time equaliser.
Jermaine Clarke put the Poppies in front in the third minute but Manny Soetan put the hosts level in the 91st minute.
In other pre-season action, Wellingborough Town beat Easington 2-0 at the Dog & Duck and neighbours Whitworth eased past Corby Pegasus by a 5-1 margin.
Thrapston and Desborough drew 1-1, Raunds went down 2-0 to Weldon and Irchester shared six goals with S&L Corby.
