Steelmen's postponement led to a useful scouting mission

Corby Town's clash at Bradford Park Avenue last weekend was postponed early enough for boss Tommy Wright and coach Liam O'Neill to go on a scouting mission.

The wet weather ensured just one match in the Vanarama National League North went ahead and it was at The Lamb where the Steelmen’s opponents this Saturday, Tamworth, were taking on Brackley Town.

It proved to be a good day for Corby’s county rivals as they claimed a 2-1 success, which moved them out of the bottom three and two points clear of the relegation zone.

Brackley went on to lose 1-0 at Gainsborough Trinity on Tuesaday night while the Steelmen dropped to the foot of the table after AFC Telford United thumped FC United of Manchester 5-1.

Wright said: “Me and Liam went to watch the game at Tamworth and Brackley deserved it.

They were the better team so fair play to them.

“They looked hungry, determined, well organised and they had a gameplan that they stuck to and Tamworth didn’t have an answer.

“The weather was probably a bit of a leveller and going into this weekend, it’s going to be similar, the pitch will be heavy.”

Wright, meanwhile, believes he is “suitably prepared” for this weekend’s clash with the seventh-placed Lambs having watched them last weekend.

However, he admitted the plans may change should Tamworth choose to ring the changes following the surprise home defeat.

“When you go and scout a team in a way you want them to win comfortably,” he added.

“You look at the 11 players who started the game and you have to plan for that but things could go out the window if they were to make three or four changes.

“Looking at it a bit deeper, the group of players they had on Saturday have been regulars for a while so I feel I am suitably prepared.”
