It proved to be a game of few chances on a tough pitch as Diamonds’ lead at the top of the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central was cut to four points as Kings Langley claimed a 2-1 victory over Leighton Town.

Diamonds boss Peaks was adamant his team should have had a penalty but he felt his players, who have now suffered just one defeat in their last nine matches in all competition, produced a good performance on the road.

“It was a tough game on a very difficult pitch,” Peaks said.

“It was 50-50 as to whether the game would go ahead but we wanted to play because it’s a long trip and not one we want to be making on a Tuesday night.

“I thought we defended well against the slope in the first half and we created a couple of half chances as well.

“But the second half was all us. It was a perfect away performance that was just lacking that goal.

“I am not sure how we didn’t get a penalty when Tom Lorraine went round the goalkeeper and was clearly brought down. And Jon Stevenson has forced the keeper into a good save.

“But it is another point on the board against a team who have a very decent home record.”

Diamonds are now gearing up for two huge matches at the Dog & Duck this week.

Third-placed St Ives Town are the visitors on Tuesday night before Kings Langley come to town next Saturday.
