Thrapston Town go into their Northants Junior Cup tie against UCL Division One rivals Woodford United tomorrow (Saturday) boosted by pulling off one of their best results of the season.

The form book suggested only one outcome when Thrapston welcomed Rothwell Corinthians to Chancery Lane last weekend.

Corinthians were looking to extend their unbeaten run to 10 matches and Thrapston had lost their previous four.

But Kaine Clinton snatched a 4-3 win for Thrapston in the dying moments.

Boss Richard Scott hopes his team will take confidence from that result into this weekend’s top-16 tie.

“On our day we can beat anyone in this league,” he said.

“And last week’s game just proved that.

“My target this season is the top eight and if we can get through to the quarter-Finals of the Northants Junior Cup that would be a good achievement as well.”

Thrapston were 2-0 winners at Woodford earlier this season and Scott said: “We know they are a big, strong side and we have to win the physical battles if we want to win the game.”

Corinthians and Raunds Town are also in Junior Cup action this weekend, with the former heading to fellow UCL Division One high-fliers Peterborough Sports while the Shopmates, buoyed by a 4-2 win over Bourne Town on Tuesday, make the short trip to Oundle Town.

Northants Combination duo Corby Eagles and Gretton are both on the road at UCL opposition in the form of ON Chenecks and Northampton Spencer respectively.

There’s a big clash at the bottom in the Division One league action as Stewarts & Lloyds host Irchester United.

Rushden & Higham United head to Buckingham Town while Burton Park Wanderers travel to Potton United.
