It’s been a superb start to the UCL Division One season for Irchester United.

The Romans opened up with a 1-0 success at Woodford United last Saturday and then they followed it up with an even better result in midweek as they triumphed 3-1 at Potton United.

Ty Clark grabbed the winner at Woodford and then scored two more on Tuesday night with Nathan Heycock adding the other.

Steve Sargent’s men will be looking to maintain their 100 per cent start when they take on local rivals Thrapston Town in their first home game of the season at Alfred Street on Sunday (3pm).

The midweek local derby between Rushden & Higham United and Raunds Town ended in a 1-1 draw with the Lankies taking the lead through Daniel Binns before Jamie Russell levelled for the Shopmates early in the second half.

Raunds head to Blackstones tomorrow (Saturday) while Rushden are on the road at league newcomers Melton Town.

Elsewhere in midweek, Whitworth were unable to build on their 4-3 opening-day win over Thrapston as they went down 3-0 at home to Olney Town.

And Stewarts & Lloyds slipped to a second successive defeat as they were beaten 4-1 by early frontrunners Oakham United at Occupation Road.

The Flourmen travel to table-topping Oakham this weekend while S&L host Bugbrooke.

Burton Park Wanderers, who suffered a 4-1 home defeat to Buckingham Town last weekend, are also on the road at Woodford.
