Rothwell Corinthians boss Shaun Sparrow hopes a bumper crowd will cheer his side into the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division this weekend.

Corinthians can clinch promotion with victory over Irchester United at Seargents Lawn tomorrow (Saturday) after beating Division One champions Northampton Spencer 2-1 last week.

That result leaves them needing three points from their last two games and Sparrow wants his side to finish the job on Saturday in front of another big crowd.

He joked: “If you’re reading this, you have to come along on Saturday! We want the place to be rocking.

“At this stage of the season, no games are easy and we are hoping a big crowd will get behind us and get us through.

“We have had some great crowds this season and we really appreciate it.

“If all goes well on Saturday, I would hope a lot of the local community will be there to celebrate. They have a team to be proud of.

“Just over a year ago, we were broken into and were struggling to pay the insurance premium.

“It’s taken a lot of hard work by a lot of people to get us where we are now.”

Jordan Henson’s double strike – his 21st and 22nd goals of the season – secured victory over Spencer last weekend.

They are impressive figures for a player who spent last season in Corinthians’ defence.

Sparrow said: “Jordan was approached by a few clubs last summer, so rang me up for a chat.

“I told him that with the players we brought in, we could have a fantastic season and he thought he could offer something as a striker.

“We gave him his chance and he’s grabbed it.

“He has totally transformed himself. To do what he has done is remarkable.

“He’s a big-game player and probably the form striker in the division at the moment.

“He deserves all the pats on the back he’s been getting. He’s turned out to be an exceptional striker for us this season.”

Potton United could yet still pip Corinthians for promotion and they provide the opposition for rock-bottom Stewarts & Lloyds’ final game of the season.

Thrapston Town, meanwhile, round off their campaign with a trip to Buckingham Town.
