The Northants Senior Youth League will embark on a pioneering formula for the 2016-17 season which is being monitored by hundreds of other youth and senior leagues throughout the country.

On an idea suggested by new league vice-chairman, registration and fixture secretary Steve Whitney, the league will start earlier, in the week commencing August 8 and run through to week ending November 11.

During that time, only league and FA Youth Cup fixtures will be played.

From November 14 until March 3 next year, League Cup and County Cup matches will be played, weather permitting, along with a Jaymann Shield tournament consisting of three leagues of five clubs taken from the positions in the East and West divisions at November 11 so that the top sides from both divisions will form one league, the middle teams form a division and the bottom sides will play each other.

The winners and best runner-up will play semi-finals.

The league will re-commence on March 6 until the end of the season.

In addition, during the winter break from league games, a Futsal League will be formed for which eight teams have already committed.

However, the league is open to teams from outside the NSYL for the futsal competition with details being available from league secretary Lesley Jones by emailing to david.jones180@ntlworld.com)
