Andy Peaks knows AFC Rushden & Diamonds can perform better than they did at the weekend as they get ready for tonight’s (Tuesday) FA Cup peliminary round replay at Bedford Town.
The ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division side looked to be heading out of this season’s competition at the Dog & Duck on Saturday after they fell behind to Rob Parker’s goal late in the first half.
But Peaks’ men battled back and earned themselves a replay at the Eyrie thanks to Matt Gearing’s goal four minutes from full-time.
The Diamonds boss felt his team created “something out of nothing” and he is sure they capable of more tonight as they do battle with the Eagles again for the right to travel to Hendon in the first qualifying round a week on Saturday.
Peaks said: “I don’t think there is anything for us to fear.
“But people have to remember that they are from the league above so they are no mugs.
“We didn’t perform anywhere near to our full capabilities at the weekend and I would like to think we can play a lot better than that in the replay.”
Arron Parkinson will definitely miss tonight’s clash after suffering a dislocated finger during Saturday’s game.
There is also a big game in the UCL Premier Division this evening as local rivals Desborough Town and Wellingborough Town lock horns at the Waterworks Field.
The Doughboys’ new joint-managers Steve Herring and Joe Smyth will be looking to earn their club’s first points of the season after they suffered a fourth defeat in a row when going down 3-2 at Harborough Town at the weekend.
Desborough, meanwhile, will be looking to build on their last-gasp stalemate at Harrowby United after Michael Byrne’s late goal earned them a 1-1 draw.
