Stewarts & Lloyds maintained their promotion chase in Division One of the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League with a 2-0 success at Oakham United on Boxing Day.

Both goals came in the first half as Moises Rodrigues opened the scoring after nine minutes before Michael Byrne added the other as the Foundrymen held on to third place in the table.

Thrapston Town gave runaway leaders Peterborough Sports a scare or two but were unable to stop them from reaching the halfway point of the season with a perfect record of 18 wins from 18 matches.

Sports’ substitute goalkeeper Lea Jordan saved Cory James’ first-half penalty at Chancery Lane but Thrapston did take the lead before the break through Duncan Charles.

However, Karl King levelled nine minutes into the second half and Sports’ relentless charge towards the title continued when David Cobb secured a 2-1 win with 18 minutes to go.

Honours ended even in the derby clash at Alfred Street as Irchester United and Whitworth shared a 2-2 draw.

Ryan Lovell gave the Romans an early lead but goals from Cavell Jarvis and Alfie Taylor turned things around for the Flourmen before half-time.

Whitworth looked like they would hold on but one of their former players - Matt Hibberd - popped up with Irchester’s equaliser with two minutes to go.

Rejuvenated bottom side Burton Park Wanderers gave high-flying ON Chenecks an almighty scare before slipping to a 3-2 defeat.

The hosts took the lead through Ash Ogden but Wanderers responded with Blayne Chester scoring twice in three minutes to give them a 2-1 lead at the break.

But Ben Foster made it 2-2 in the second half and then converted a penalty with just five minutes remaining to secure victory for Chenecks.

The early kick-off between Rushden & Higham United and Raunds Town was played out in tough conditions and neither side could find a breakthrough as they battled out a 0-0 draw.
