AFC Rushden & Diamonds’ 100 per cent start to the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division season was ended as they were beaten 2-1 at Yaxley.

Andy Peaks’ men found themselves 2-0 down inside the first 50 minutes as Scott Carter gave the Cuckoos a first-half lead with Andy Furnell doubling the advantage soon after the break.

Fazel Koriya gave Diamonds a lifeline and they were handed the chance to take a point when Yaxley goalkeeper Aaron Butcher fouled Jason Turner in the area. However, he redeemed himself by saving Koriya’s penalty as Diamonds slipped to defeat.

It was also a disappointed day for Wellingborough Town and Desborough Town as their good runs of form were ended.

The Doughboys were thrashed 5-0 by early leaders Holbeach United who led by a single goal at half-time, courtesy of Ash Fuller.

Jamie Clarke struck twice in the second half to make it 3-0 before Fuller went on to complete his hat-trick to complete the scoring.

Desborough’s three-game winning run came to an end at Cogenhoe United as they sealed a 1-0 success thanks to Luke Emery’s second-half goal.
