AFC Rushden & Diamonds suffered a second successive home defeat as Huntingdon Town claimed a 2-1 victory at the Dog & Duck in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division.

Despite plenty of pressure from Mark Starmer’s men, it was the visitors who took the lead in the second half through Micky Hyem.

Sam Brown hit the post for the hosts but Huntingdon secured their third success over Diamonds when Declan Rogers finished off a counter-attack 11 minutes from the end.

Aaron King pulled one back four minutes into stoppage-time but it was not enough to prevent the loss.

It was also a bad night for Desborough Town and Stewarts & Lloyds as they saw their interest in the NFA Hillier Senior Cup ended.

Desborough lost 2-1 at Long Buckby as Josh Crawley hit both goals for the hosts while Paul Caswell replied for Ar Tarn.

S&L, meanwhile, went down 3-1 at Peterborough Northern Star who went into a 2-0 lead thanks to Nick Davey and Billy Smith. Milan Ceko’s deflected free-kick gave Kevin Byrne’s side hope but the hosts rounded things off as Davey struck again in the second half.

Raunds Town were beaten 4-1 by Northampton Spencer in the first round of the UCL Knockout Cup at Kiln Park.

Liam Tuck put the visitors in front before Charlie Bardell replied. But Ryan Dove regained the lead for Spencer before the break and late goals from Matt Long and Munya Matiyenga completed the victory.
