AFC Rushden & Diamonds slipped further off the pace in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division as they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at Boston Town.
On a day when the vast majority of matches in the UCL were wiped out due to the wet weather, Diamonds’ trip to Lincolnshire survived.
But, while leaders Spalding United were beating Newport Pagnell 4-0, Mark Starmer’s men were unable to follow up their fine success at the Tulips last weekend as their 10-match winning streak was ended to see them fall 13 points behind the table-topppers.
The Poachers took the lead after 28 minutes when a free-kick wasn’t cleared properly and Josh Ford finished it off.
Diamonds did draw level just before the hour through Alex Deakin but his defensive error was capitalised on by Paul Goodhand who sealed the points for the hosts.
The local derby between Wellingborough Town and Desborough Town was called off, as was Stewarts & Lloyds’ home clash with Sleaford Town.
Just one game involving local clubs survived in Division One as Raunds Town went down 2-0 at leaders Oadby Town.
Jon Stevenson put the hosts in front and the scoring was completed by Pradeep Bahrey four minutes into stoppage-time.
Weather permitting, all the UCL clubs will be back in action on Boxing Day with the standout fixture being the Dog & Duck derby between Wellingborough and Diamonds.
