Crucial night ahead for Diamonds and Corinthians

There is a big night ahead for promotion-chasing duo AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Rothwell Corinthians in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League.

Diamonds head to AFC Kempston Rovers this evening (Tuesday) knowing a win will take them seven points clear at the top of the Premier Division.

Andy Peaks’ side maintained their four-point advantage at the summit after Brad Harris grabbed a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw against second-placed Wisbech Town in front of over 900 fans at the Dog & Duck at the weekend.

Corinthians, meanwhile, have emerged as genuine promotion contenders in Division One.

They beat Olney Town 2-0 at the weekend to make it eight wins in a row.

Shawn Sparrow’s team, who have games in hand on all of their rivals, take on second-placed Peterborough Sports at Sergeants Lawn tonight knowing a win will move them into the second promotion place behind runaway leaders Northampton Spencer, who travel to Whitworth this evening.

Elsewhere, Wellingborough Town will look to bounce back from their 3-1 loss at Holbeach United on Saturday when they take on Oadby Town at the Dog & Duck in the Premier Division.

There is a Division One derby at Latimer Park as Burton Park Wanderers take on Irchester United.

The Romans claimed a superb 2-1 win over high-flying Lutterworth Athletic at the weekend while Wanderers fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Buckingham Town.
