Ar Tarn must not allow cup heartbreak to ruin the season

Desborough Town manager Chris Bradshaw wants his players to bounce back from their cup disappointment

Ar Tarn looked to be heading for the final when they opened up a 2-0 lead on Wisbech Town last weekend.

But the Fenmen scored twice in the last 17 minutes and then went on to win 4-1 in a penalty shoot-out.

It was a tough one to take for Bradshaw’s team, who host Harrowby United tomorrow (Saturday).

But the Desborough boss wants his players to hit back and finish the season well.

“We were gutted, of course, but the positive thing is that I think it has been a long time since Desborough have been that disappointed about something,” Bradshaw said.

“It’s a sign of how far we have come this season and it was devastating but I am sure Wisbech will be wondering how we were 2-0 up and they are a decent side who were worth their win.

“But there is no way I will let this disappointment ruin our season.

“We have to move on, we have Harrowby at home tomorrow and we have to bounce back.

“Over the next four games we are going to be looking for maximum points to set us up for the last five matches.

“It won’t be easy to do that because we have to face some tough teams but it’s what we will try to do.”

Rothwell Corinthians joint-boss Jim Scott believes his team have a score to settle when they make the trip to Sleaford Town.

Corinthians go into the clash on the back of a 4-1 defeat to champions-elect Peterborough Sports last weekend, although they made the leaders sweat after what Scott described as a “fantastic” second-half display.

But looking ahead to the game at Sleaford, Scott said: “We feel like we owe them one.

“We drew 2-2 with them at home and we were 2-0 down but we hit the post, had numerous chances and we felt it was day where we left two points out there.

“It’s always a tough place to go but we see this as a game that we must pick some points up from.

“It was very frustrating last Saturday, we were 1-0 down at half-time but the lads came out and were fantastic.

“I thought Peterborough looked a bit desperate at times but then they have got a very soft penalty and that visibly knocked the stuffing out of our players.

“Overall, there was nothing between the two sides and the performance was very good.”
